Year Three

Project SUMMARY

The Ascension

My progression as a designer accelerated dramatically during my final year at university. I received a first class honour in my second year of university, which in turn gave me confidence in my abilities. As a result of this new found confidence, I took the next step by engaging with industry and freelance projects. I gained work experience with a multi-national award winning design agency which led to a full time position following my completion of university. This year alone, i truly discovered the value of education and found my passion for learning whilst gaining experience with creative technologies such as Virtual Reality, of which I am passionate about.

Picky Designs VR Exhibition

My major project was the creation of a Virtual Reality (VR) exhibition for my brand, Picky Designs. I wanted to enhance my online presence by using VR as a creative solution to showcase my work and my specialism in creative technologies. I used blender to model and texture the 3D environment, Unity was then used to light, animate, and fill content. The experience was then hosted using Alt Space which offers additional world enhancing options along with social and event hosting capabilities. I welcomed people to my environment in an event launch on Tuesday 25th of May, I invited friends, family and work colleagues.

Picky Designs

To successfully engage with industry and freelance projects, I was in need of my own branding. I wanted my brand to represent me and my personality and I feel i've created something modern, iconic and clean. My nickname has been 'Picky' for the majority of my life and it suits, I have always had attention to detail particularly in my design work. I've gone with a black and red colour theme, partially because they are my favourite colours, but mainly due to what these colour represent. Red always evokes a physical reaction and black is sophistication, glamorous, represents an air of mystery.

VR Photography Exhibition

Given the circumstances of Covid-19, student exhibitions are unable to run. As a result of this, the University of Salford was looking to our course for a creative solution for Art, Design, and Media's degree exhibition. We were split into teams, I lead my group and we chose to create a photography exhibition using Virtual Reality. As a leader, my role was project ideation, software tutorials and to create the main lobby space for our event. We created our space using the same softwares and processes as the 'Picky Designs Exhibition". We used Blender for 3D modelling, Unity for lighting and sound, and then finally we hosted it using Alt Space which added masses of value to the project. This project was a major success, our idea pitch received great feedback and praise from the client, my favourite comment being from the head of Art, Design, and Media that our idea is 'years ahead of its time'.
