Project SUMMARY

The Creation

The first year of university education was focused on three main aspects, firstly bringing out creative ideas, secondly learning how to use new technologies and design tools, and finally how to apply creative thinking when designing. The year covered a variety of software, though mainly focused on Adobe Creative Cloud applications. Through discovering this variety of software, new skills started to develop, such as: video editing, animation, UI design, app design, web design, HTML and CSS coding, branding, iconography, and illustration. However, these skills were pointless without purpose and understanding of application, so the briefs we applied our learning to were designed to encourage creativity and importance of purpose in design.

DISPLACED

'Displaced' was a team project which I led. The brief asked us to raise awareness surrounding urban issues of our choice using whichever creative tools we chose. We named ours 'Displaced' and focused on Drugs, Debt, and Homelessness. I was the one to choose the name for the group and I think it worked really well. It was derived from three words which were situated within displaced: 'SPACED' which referred to drug abuse. 'DICE' referring to debt and gambling, and 'PLACE' which referred to homelessness in young people. Our group had three deliverables; an animation, a video, and a selection of posters. I was mainly involved in the production of the concept, posters and video content. I was also the model for some of the video content. See gallery below for more content.

LVL UP

'LVL UP' was an individual university set project based around the Museum of Science and Industry. The brief asked us to come up with an exhibition concept celebrating Manchester's history with technology, then to create three posters and an invitation to advertise the event. There was also the chance for us to create an additional creative artifact of our choice to support the other materials. For my project I chose the history of gaming and to support this I created a companion app that allowed users to scan QR codes linking exhibit pieces with online information. The exhibit also contained games and the app hosted a live leaderboard to be displayed during the event.

OUR KID - KidsCan

'Kids Can' was a non-live client based project for Children's Cancer Research charity. This was a team based project to create a campaign and rebrand the charity. We called our campaign 'OUR KID' as the charity is Manchester based and the phrase has a lot of local significance. The brief had four aims: increase awareness, increase volunteers, increase fundraisers and increase donations. We also kept a separate aim in mind when approaching the brief, that our final output 'must provide hope'. My main work on this project focused on creation of the logo, branding and app.
